A gold mine disaster in Erzincan, Turkey, sends thousands of tonnes of earth plunging into the valley in a matter of seconds. The removal of some 650 workers from the area before the disaster occurred prevented a major catastrophe.

16 February : Vladimir Putin’s Biggest Feared Man Dies

Russian opposition leader and Vladimir PUTIN’s main rival Alexei Navalny was found dead in the prison where he had been detained shortly before the elections. Although the cause of death was not confirmed, there was widespread public speculation that he had been murdered.
